Communion Liturgy for Good Friday
Invitation
Leader: Tonight, as we walk with Jesus.
We follow him through betrayal, violence, exhaustion, and death.
We come to this table not to escape the world,
but to face it—together.
To name the fear, the injustice, the unraveling we feel around us.
To remember the One who did not look away.
Even now, as power is abused,
as truth is twisted,
as some grow rich while others grow afraid—
we remember this:
Jesus still walks with the wounded.
All:
We remember. We grieve. We hope.
Words of Institution
Leader:
On the night he was betrayed—by empire and by friend—
Jesus took bread.
He gave thanks. He broke it. He gave it to his disciples and said:
“This is my body, broken for you.
Take. Eat. And remember me.”
Then he took the cup, saying:
“This cup is the new covenant,
sealed in my blood,
poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this in remembrance of me.”
All:
We remember. We receive. We believe.
Prayer
Leader:
God of the crucified,
You know the sorrow of this world.
You know what it means to be condemned without cause,
to be mocked, stripped, and silenced.
As we share this bread and this cup,
give us courage to live as resurrection people
in a Good Friday world.
Let this meal strengthen us
to resist injustice,
to embody mercy,
and to love with your fierce and faithful love.
All:
When we are afraid—be our courage.
When we are weary—be our strength.
When we are broken—be our healing.
Receive Communion
Closing Words
Leader:
Even here, in the shadow of the cross,
God is not absent.
Even now, in the silence of the tomb,
Love is not finished.
So we walk on—
With trembling hearts and stubborn hope—
toward a dawn we cannot yet see,
but still believe is coming.
All:
Christ has died. Christ is with us. Christ will rise again.
